| Taxonomy |
The area of botany dealing with the classifying
and naming of plants. |
| Tender |
In the horticultural sense of not enduring
winter conditions. |
| Tendril |
A climbing organ metamorphosed from a leaf,
stipule or stem. |
| Tepal |
A segment of perianth not differentiated
into calyx or corolla. Ex.- tulip, magnolia. |
| Terminal |
Applied to the end bud beyond which no further
growth takes place normally until the following season.
At the tip or distal end. |
| Ternate |
In threes. |
| Thorns |
Sharp outgrowths of the twig that represent
modified branches; usually bearing leaf scars, or branched. |
| Tomentose |
With short matted hairs; woolly. |
| Tomentulose |
Microscopically tomentose or woolly. |
| Tomentum |
Densely matted hairs. |
| Toothed |
A margin that is broken up into small rather
regular segments. |
| Torsion |

Twisted or knobby, irregularly swollen at
close intervals. |

Prostrate or not rooting. |
| Transverse ridge |
A ridge that runs across the stem from one
leaf scar to its pair on t he opposite side of the
twig. |

A bristle or hair. |
| Trifoliate |
Three-leaved. Ex. Trillium |
| Trifoiolate |
A leaf with three leaflets. |
| Tuber |
A short, thickened organ, usually but not
necessarily, an underground stem. |
| Tubercle |
A miniature tuber, tuber-like structure
or projection. |
| Tumid |
Swollen |
| Tunicated |
With concentric layers, often of fleshy
scales. |
| Turgid |
Swollen to firmness. |
| Twiggy |
Having many divergent twigs. |
| Twining |
A stem winding around a support. |
